Scrum Talk Daily - # 3
Scrum Team Accountabilities (roles) # 1 - Developers

According to the 2020 Scrum Guide, The fundamental unit of Scrum is a small team of people, a Scrum Team. The entire Scrum Team is accountable for creating a valuable, useful Increment every Sprint. Scrum defines three specific accountabilities within the Scrum Team: the Developers, the Product Owner, and the Scrum Master.

So what makes a Developer?

Developers are the people in the Scrum Team that are committed to creating any aspect of a usable Increment each Sprint. The Developers are accountable for:

Creating a plan for the Sprint, the Sprint Backlog;
Instilling quality by adhering to a Definition of Done;
Adapting their plan each day toward the Sprint Goal; and,
Holding each other accountable as professionals.

That sounds like more than just "they build stuff". That sounds more like a group of people who are making decisions every day to meet a specific goal. That sounds like a group of people who are managing themselves. Hmm...

Does your development team have Scrum in place? Are you self-managing? If not, does being self-managing sound attractive to you?
