Scrum Talk Daily - # 5
Scrum Team Accountabilities (roles) # 3 - Scrum Master

What is a Scrum Master?

A Scrum Master leads with ZERO authority in any matter. What does it mean to lead without authority?

Scrum Masters are true leaders who serve the Scrum Team and the larger organization.

The Scrum Master serves the Scrum Team in several ways: Coaching self-management, removing impediments, and more.

The Scrum Master serves the Product Owner in several ways: Helping the Team understand the need for clear and concise Product Backlog items, facilitate stakeholder collaboration as requested or needed, and more.

The Scrum Master serves the organization in several ways: Leading, training, and coaching the organization in its Scrum adoption, and more.

How does one execute this kind of influence on an organization with no real authority?

Did you notice the most important word in all that? ... serve

How do you approach the Scrum Master position in a way that serves? If you are doing a bunch of work outside of the purview of the Scrum Master, are you really serving anyone by doing this? Why or why not?
